Building a green world

It is considered the most widely used man-made product in the world, with which we build our homes, schools, bridges, and so much other infrastructure.

As an essential material for modern construction, cement, the main binder of concrete, handles around 7% of the world's CO2 emissions and, for this very reason, its industry is more committed than ever to the sustainability issue.

Among the 40 largest companies in the sector worldwide, which have set themselves the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, is the Portuguese company Secil. Involved in several emblematic works in the country, such as Vasco da Gama Bridge, Casa da Música or more recently the Lisbon Cruise Terminal (a project that uses a more environmentally friendly concrete solution), the company has just celebrated nine decades of existence.

Besides investing in digital transformation to improve the efficiency of processes and customer experience, putting the customer at the centre of its attention, the company looks to the near future aware of the impact of its activity and therefore has a strategic focus on the much-needed green transition.

This is the starting point of a report that takes us to discover how Secil is building not only its future but also the future of our cities and the planet.
